My mother always had something for me to do. She'd hand me a ball point pen, turn over an newspaper advertisement that had a blank side and tell me to draw. I'd sit and watch tv shows where there was some sort of segment on drawing being taught by a man in a funny outfit. That was in the early 70's. Not a lot has changed except our ex-military household doesn't move every 2-3 years and the standard issue ballpoint pens have been replaced by a drawing tablet. I have my mother to thank for allowing me the freedom to express myself through art. I don't think she really thought I would take this all so seriously until I received my degree in Fine Arts. I probably don't spend nearly as much time these days on my own artwork although I have been finding enjoyment (once again) in working with canvas. I've got an attention span of a gnat so I tend to move from one thing to another. Luckily everything I dabble in is fun and I get to say I've at least tried it once.
